Pigeon Racing: The importance of education when you are starting out in Pigeon Racing
Pigeon racing is one of the most fun and exciting activity for any pigeon lover. While many try to wing the sport on their own learning by trial and error I will express a different course of action one of education and study. In this article I will take a two step approach by providing you some tips if you are starting out in pigeon racing but from the standpoint of following a proven system of education.
I know what your thinking another sales pitch but this my fellow pigeon enthusiast is worth it. So to be fair lets just begin with some good tips if you are starting out before the education pitch is that fair? Thanks!
Here is a good tip when starting out pay the most attention to your stock selection first. By far this is paramount. Everything begins with having the right selection of pigeon. Your stock selection is the foundation for your pigeons and it will determine the offspring when breeding. To get a champion racer you need to make sure they have the proper qualities. If you are not sure of what qualifies as good find someone to help you. Or better yet you can put in the research to find out what is good. Oops I slipped up I hinted at education again didn’t mean to but its hard to not mention it.
Another tip to keep in mind while there are many aspects to know involving pigeon racing Training, breeding, feeding, loft, and stock selection are the 5 foundation pillars. You will need to learn about all of them to be successful.
Having a good pigeon loft is also pivotal. The higher your knowledge of lofts will also determine your effectiveness as a racer. However if you are just starting out close attention to this may be not as necessary. Now this only based on the assumption you have a small amount of pigeons since you are just starting out. If you have more loft knowledge is crucial.
It is also important to start out in short distances when training pigeons for racing. Never have your pigeons go over 1-2 miles out when you are first starting out. You can then move into increments of 4-6 and then 8-10 and so on.
