If you just starting out in the world of pigeon racing, picking quality racers is paramount in order to win. I covered a little bit on this topic in a previous post, Pigeons for Sale. In this post I discuss the best place for obtaining racing pigeons, and that place is no other than pigeon auctions. There are 4 auction types in particular, and I will give a brief introduction of each one.
First on the list is the Complete Sell Out
- In the complete sell out the loft sells not just all the birds, but supplies such as clocks and pigeon supplies.
Next on the list is the Special Auction
- As the name implies special birds are put up for sale in this type of pigeon auction.
Then there is the Loft Reduction Auction
- This kind of auction is actually my favorite. You get great deals. It involves the sale to seriously reduce the number of birds in a loft. What makes it unique is the design to take part in pigeons racing.
The last auction on the list is the Donation Auction
- In this auction the proceeds will be donated to a charity or fundraiser.
Now that you know the auction types there are 4 points that are worth stressing when purchasing an attending these pigeon auctions.
- It is important to do your homework, and research the reputation and credibility of the auction type. Be sure the quality of the pigeon supplies, the loft birds and the type of the conditions the pigeons sold race in.
- If you cannot detect or have experience determining the quality of pigeons you are intending to purchase bring an experienced breeder.
- If bringing an experienced breeder is not an option, purchase your pigeons on the performance instead of the characteristics of wings, throats and muscles.
- If you are going to attend any pigeon auction in person, it is paramount that you arrive well before the auction start time. This will allow you to look over the pedigrees and put a game plan in place in purchasing your ideal pigeons of choice.
